IL CASTELLO

LA STORIA
Spizzichina Castle is special place much loved by entrepreneurs, scientists, artists and intellectuals who, like us, appreciate the superb quality of the events held in its striking ambiance.
The castle -- whose odd name is reminiscent of " spilluzzico ", which means tidbit -- is not a large estate, but it is quite beautiful and a very fascinating place. Although it is just a few minutes from downtown Rome, it sits in the midst of the verdant plains and sinuous hills dotted with remains of Roman temples, villas and statues. The landscape is permeated with nostalgia, rich in the memory of the eternal grandeur of bygone days.
The Spizzichina estate was once the home of Burgus Vetus , a small hamlet founded by the ancient Cancellieri family, in part built using the fragments of Roman monuments and also marble and flint quoins. The many wayfarers who stopped to rest at the estate were primarily pilgrims heading to the Vatican, but there were also travelers who paid the gabelle tax and received a warm welcome in this mysterious and fascinating place. Saint Padre Pio, who stopped here after a long journey, and Saint Carlo Borromeo, heading to Rome on invitation of his uncle Pius IV in 1560, are among the illustrious figures who found hospitality within the castle walls.

CASTELLO CAPPELLA
The estate grew over the years: walls outside of the complex were built in the Baroque Era. Murals and furnishings were added inside the castle. A portico was constructed on Cassia Way, and the chapel was built on commission of the families of tenant farmers living on the estate.
The tower, the spacious garden and the chapel, whose old flint wall is still visible, are just some of the things that make Spizzichina Castle a romantic, enchanting place and the perfect location for staging unforgettable events.
